Florida Housing to make up to $21 Million Available for Repair or Reconstruction of Homes Damaged by Recent Hurricanes.

 

Corporation continues to provide affordable housing assistance to areas impacted by the storms.  

Tallahassee - In a continuing effort to provide affordable housing assistance after the recent hurricanes, Florida Housing is developing "HOME Again," a disaster relief program that will provide up to $21 million statewide for the repair, reconstruction or replacement of homes damaged during the storms. Funding is expected to be available in early December.

"Housing has been and remains our top  priority during the recovery effort, said Governor Bush.  "The 'Home Again' program will assist local governments in provide those whose homes were severely damaged, or totally destroyed security of being back in their homes with their loves ones."  

The allocation will primarily focus on the most intensively storm-impacted areas of the state.  Once in place, "Home Again" will allow local government, State Housing Initiatives Partnership ("SHIP") Program Administrators, public housing authorities and nonprofit organizations to apply for home repair or replacement funding - on a reimbursement basis - on behalf of homeowners in communities which were declared state or federal disaster areas.  

This program will provide up to $50,000 per project to homeowners whose gross annual incomes do not exceed 80 percent of area median income (AMI), living in single family detached housing, a condominium unit or town home, or a manufactured housing unit.  Manufactured housing units built before 1995 could be eligible for replacement.  Those built after 1994 could be eligible fore repair or replacement.  

Local governments, SHIP Program Administrators, public housing authorities and nonprofit organizations will submit a description of local need and prepare a scope of work, allowing contractors to bid on the construction projects.  Applicants will have 24 months to expend awarded funds.
